JMF Support Group was set up by Ms A. Bailey, otherwise known as (Toks Bailey) a parent of an Autistic son, who has undergone
traumatic experience’s from both family, and professionals.
She had found that some professional’s attitudes were so unacceptable to the point that they believed that you
as a parent are to blame and after the mistake (which is undoubtedly your mistake) now permits you to ask for
what they feel is too much, when you only deserve the minimum amount of support.
These professionals also made Toks feel as if in her words "you don’t deserve even the minimum support that
they give to you, and despite this all no matter how a "professional" makes you feel you should still be
grateful as they are fully qualified practioner's where as you are just the parent. But what they forget
is that it is you that lives and has to care for that child 365 days in the year without a paid holiday and
no one will be more qualified on that child’s wants or needs that that child or children’s parent".
As a result Toks had to give up her career to care and support her son on a full time basis.
Consequently after much deliberation and hopelessly seeking for organisations that helped young children
with her sons condition she decided to give her time in voluntary work to support other parents in the
same circumstances as herself, to re-assure other parents THAT, THEY ARE NOT ALONE when trying to cope
and survive with the challenges of adapting and adjusting to their child being disabled.
She then devoted herself to various training/studies/research (to become a consultant in Education in SEN)
in order to make a difference in young people /families with disabilities lives, and to re-educate people
from different ethnic backgrounds/religions beliefs.
We are a charity registered in England no. 1120592.
